From the day he walked into his kindergarten class wearing a pressed suit and bow tie, through Roosevelt
Junior High, high school, college, law school and all of his adult life that ended with his untimely death on June
21, 2006, from a brain hemorrhage, George Vincent Paluso shined brightly among his peers.  His father
George R. Paluso, a Sicilian immigrant, married Mr. Paluso’s mother, Angela Tamborelli, in Pennsylvania before
moving to San Diego during the 1930s.  He founded a produce market that became Brother’s Market after
World War II when he invited his brothers to join the business.  Mr. Paluso was born at Mercy Hospital in San
Diego on March 5, 1948.

As a child Mr. Paluso rode his bicycle from his home on 16th Street through the nearby streets of
downtown San Diego.  He learned early that rewards in life had to be earned and worked diligently in his father’
s business.  During his teens, he drove a truck delivering potatoes, tomatoes and other produce to restaurants
around town including Anthony's Fish Grotto.  While in college he sold paint in the local Sears department
store.

He excelled at San Diego High School graduating in 1966.  He was the Associated Student Body Vice
President and Boys' Federation Man of the Hour.  He was awarded life membership in the California State
Federation and was Chairman of the General Assembly.  He was gifted in linguistics and earned Magna and
Summa Cum Laude awards on the National Latin Test.  He served as president of the Kiwanis sponsored Key
Club, Boy's Federation Treasurer and Year Book Staff Sports Editor. He was in the Lettermen's Club having
earned four Junior Varsity and Varsity letters in cross country and track.  His senior high classmates voted him
the Most Intelligent Senior Boy in the class.  His commitment to his classmates continued throughout his life as
he served on the school reunion committees from the 10th through the 40th year reunions.

Mr. Paluso attended Revelle College at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), graduating in 1970 with
a B.S. degree after majoring in Ancient History and Political Science.  He attended law school at the University
of San Diego and was a member of the Law Review.  He earned a Juris Doctor degree in 1973 and was
admitted to the State Bar of California in December 1973.  He engaged in the civil practice of law and was
associated a short time with attorney Fred Hetter and then started his own practice with long time partner Jay
Zybelman and later Duane Sceper.  His love for downtown San Diego compelled him to establish his law office
on or near Broadway, and he was seen frequently walking to and from lunch (making friends of each restaurant
owner, manager, or waiter) or to his beloved Petco Park.

First and foremost a family man, Mr. Paluso met Patricia Ruth Greeley in September 1967 at a "Get
Acquainted Dance" after being introduced on the dance floor.  They became involved with the UCSD Catholic
Newman Center and were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Escondido after their junior year, in 1969.
They were the parents of two brilliant children who brought the greatest joy to his life; Kathleen born in 1978
and Dominick born in 1983.  After being admitted to the bar, Mr. Paluso immediately hopped on an airplane in a
three-piece suit to meet his wife Pat for his first trip to Tahiti.  He surprised her with another trip to Tahiti on their
20th Anniversary and then returned eleven more times.  They would have celebrated their 37th anniversary on
July 5, 2006.

Community service was a hallmark of Mr. Paluso’s life.  He was proud of and never forgot a scholarship
awarded to him on graduation from high school by the Kiwanis Club of San Diego.  At UCSD he was a founding
member and president of the Kiwanis Sponsored Circle K club.  He joined the Kiwanis Club of Tierrasanta in
1976, was awarded the Kiwanis Legion of Honor after 25-years of Kiwanis service and had over 29-years of
perfect attendance.  He was president of the club in 1981-82 and proposed creating a Tierrasanta Kiwanis
scholarship for graduating Serra High School seniors that has grown and ultimately led to the establishment of
the Kiwanis Foundation of Tierrasanta in 1997.  Mr. Paluso served on the board of directors of the foundation
from its inception until his death and was president from 2000-2005.   He and his family were members of
Ascension Catholic Parish since its inception in 1980.  The Paluso family was awarded the Family of the Year
Award for 1994-95 by the California-Nevada-Hawaii District of Kiwanis International.  His last act of service was
the gift of his organs through Lifesharing and the Sharp Memorial ICU team.

A gourmet cook and wine lover, Mr. Paluso became a Travel Agent to facilitate his zeal for travel.  But his
real passion was baseball and baseball never had a more enthusiastic fan than George Paluso.  He was a Little
League coach and later an umpire.  Along with many friends, he helped organize the Serra High School
Baseball Boosters and helped finance many improvements to the field and program.  While his son Dominick
played college baseball at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, he was active in the Westmont Baseball
Boosters club, coordinated with team parents to provide lunches for both home and away games and
established a snack bar for home games.  He was a devoted Padres fan and season ticket holder since 1985.
On each visit to Petco Park he would proudly touch “his brick” bearing the names of the Paluso family at Padres
Palm Court.  After being gifted with a Padre's Fantasy Baseball weekend for his 40th  birthday by his dear
friend Brent Strom, Mr. Paluso became a player-manager of an "over 40" Baseball team, part of National Adult
Baseball Association.  He was on a team for the past 18-years, with several Championships and bearing many
names, including The Framemaker and AA Printing named after sponsoring businesses owned by dear friends
Steve Atlas and Leon Alpert.  Mr. Paluso played his last baseball game on the Sunday before his death.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Paluso; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen Hougland and Dr. James
Hougland; son and fiancée, Dominick Paluso and Melissa Chaty; father and mother, George R. and Angela
Paluso; brother and sister, Gregory A. Paluso and Georgia L. Fetting; and, many uncles, aunts, cousins and in-
laws.

A memorial service was held on Monday, July 3, at 11:00 a.m., at Ascension Catholic Church, with upwards
of 500 friends, family and business associates attending. The Paluso family is extremely grateful for the caring
and support by Lifesharing, the Sharp Memorial ICU team and their many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Tierrasanta Kiwanis Foundation, P.O.
Box 420094, San Diego, CA 92142-0094 (in Memory of George Paluso) for a Serra High School Scholarship
being established in his name; or, to the Westmont Baseball George Paluso Memorial Scholarship, Westmont
